In this article today I'd like to talk about several tips, tricks, and techniques that just about everybody can use to enjoy a wonderful vacation at any number of national parks for a lot less money.
Most people don't realize how incredibly lucky we are in the United States of America to have such a vast network of national parks to enjoy. These parks allow incredible vacation opportunities right in our own backyards. Today I'd like to talk about several different ways that you can enjoy these national treasures much cheaper than you may have ever expected.
While most of these parks, if not all of the parks, are free to explore and enjoy, you will spend money on lodging while you stay there and sometimes that lodging can be incredibly expensive depending on the popularity of the park.
The first tip to lower costs therefore, is go to a less frequented park.
Yosemite is incredibly popular and you may pay $200 or more per night to stay there but there are other parks that are just as majestic that can cost a fraction of the amount because they're not as well known. The only downside is that you're going to have to do some research on your own to find the cheaper places but there are a number of guidebooks that can help you on your way as well as the Internet which is a great tool for finding discounts and travel ideas.
The next tip to lower your costs is to take advantage of the free or inexpensive activities that are offered at almost every national park. These things usually include things like hikes and sometimes tours or history and nature programs of different sorts. Each park will offer different things for free so again you'll have to research before hand to find activities that are interesting to you and your family.
Another tip that many families especially enjoy is to camp out at the park itself. Many parks offer campsites for tents and campers but also many parks offer cabins that you can rent that are usually much cheaper than lodging at hotels in the area. Sometimes these cabins can cost less than $50 a night and often times campsites can cost less than $20 a night! Check your particular park before hand to get all the details you'll need because sometimes these cabins can get booked up and you have to reserve them far in advance.
The final tip is to travel during off seasons. Spring and fall are usually considered off-season at most national parks and again you'll have to do your research to find out for sure for each park.
So there you have several very simple tricks, tips, and tactics that just about anybody can use to enjoy a very nice vacation at our wonderful national parks for much less money than you may have expected.
