Noted as the most expansive parkland in Tianjin, Beining Park at first glance seems too pristine to be real. First constructed in the early 1900's covering a region of about 48,613 square meters, this former 19th century plantation was originally called Two Seven Park during China's Cultural Revolution. Having adopted its current name from the period after 1976, the sprawling parkland is a Tianjin icon of sorts in its own right. Located in Heping district, the park's borders stretch across from its northern gate on Yu Hong Road to its eastern entrance from Zhong Shan North Road.
Dominating the layout of this idyllic venue lies the 70 metre high Zhiyuan Pagoda while other highlights include a lake which is flanked by several quaint pavilions, small hills and conventional Chinese structures. The lake's body of water is a combination of the Yueya and Jinzhong rivers while it is interesting to note that one third of Beining Park consists of water.
